Process
Analysis and Reengineering
We apply tools and techniques to thoroughly assess
an enterprise’s existing activities and
operations, identify inefficiencies, and reengineer
solutions that lead to streamlined workflows and
higher outputs. This process includes defining
strategies for how information technology can
be implemented to align with business goals, enable
lower costs, and increase quality performance.
As-Is Modeling
Analysis of the client’s existing enterprise
involves modeling the existing business activities,
systems, information sources, and sinks using
diagrams and software visualization tools.
To-Be Modeling
We identify the root causes of problems within
the enterprise—such as redundant task
performance
and bottlenecks—and design
a model that details improvements. In addition,
we conduct a “gap analysis” and develop
a plan for bridging the gap between the As-Is
state of the enterprise and the
To-Be state.
Knowledge Acquisition
Knowledge acquisition refers to the methods whereby
we meet with the client early and often to understand
the client’s business, gain agreement with
stakeholders on the existing problems and solutions,
develop solutions, and determine success metrics. |
General
- Elimination of inefficient workflows
- Reduction of redundant labor
and documentation
- More efficient workflows in the clinical
research and patient care setting
- Streamlined business transactions and
employee operations, leading to increased
customer satisfaction and lower administration
costs

Researchers
- Avoidance of redundant paperwork, resulting
in increased focus on conducting experiments
- Streamlined methods for capturing and
reusing complex clinical information

Care Providers and Patients
- Simplified admissions, registration,
and discharge
- More efficient bed management, protocol
tracking, and patient tracking
- Improved doctor-patient experience

Our Technical Approach
When conducting business process reengineering, Digital
Infuzion follows and adopts techniques from the Rational
Unified Process (RUP), a proven methodology that prescribes
milestones, best practices, and tools for completing
projects. Within the framework of the RUP methodology,
the
use of certain workflows, activities, and artifacts
changes according to the client’s situation. Our
approach is to select and blend together the right tools
and techniques that help us achieve milestones efficiently
and effectively.
Moreover, because RUP is a complete software engineering
process predicated upon visual modeling, it maps well
to other enterprise architecture methodologies, such
as the Zachman Framework or the Federal Enterprise Architecture
Framework (FEAF).
Our approach to process engineering efforts involves
the following stages:
Stage 1: Understand the
client’s business—needs, goals, and challenges—through
knowledge acquisition sessions.
Stage 2: Perform As-Is
and To-Be modeling.
Stage 3: Create a Vision
Document to describe the stakeholders’ view of
the new product or solution, including key needs and
features. This document is used throughout the process
to maintain focus, drive requirements, and keep the
project in scope.
Stage 4: Manage the design,
development, and deployment of the product/solution
using our software development processes and frameworks.
